Golden Mic Challenge 2010 Final Results - Matter Takes The Title

It's late and I have work in the morning. However, certain things require blogging about.

This Saturday was the Golden Mic final in Leeds. Hotly anticipated is not the word... every MC I've run into in the last couple of weeks has talked about nothing else.

I haven't got time to review it in great detail but suffice to say I thought the order of results was spot on.

The well-deserved winner was Matter (Verbal Contact/ Northern Hostility). He truly is one of the figureheads of the local scene and showed us all how it was done.

Sage came second - a very respectable performance from an MC with a very different style who nonetheless rose to the challenge of battling better than I'd thought he might.

Jimmy Crackstar was pretty good on the whole - no complaints really and he deserved his place in the final, although I would never have really seen him winning.

Tongue Tied from Defenders of Style was, by his own admission, not at his best. On a good night, he probably wouldn't have quite beaten Matter but could certainly have made the fight for second place with Sage very interesting indeed. As it was, he took his fourth place slot with good grace.

A fun night overall, and a second GMC win for an artist on local label 30 Tonne Slug after ABD from Alphabetix became the first ever champion last year. If the competition continues next year (as I hope it will), I'll be interested to see whether they can keep hold of the title or whether another crew can take it from them. Only time will tell...
